Individual Occupational Therapy

What does the OT process look like?

  • Initial phone consultation - Free 30-minute consultation to see how Occupational Therapy services can align with your child and family needs and to determine goals.

  • School visit - Let the therapist be a fly on the wall to observe how they are in their natural environment.

  • Evaluation (informal or formal) - 4-5 sessions of clinical or standardized assessment of fine and gross motor skills as well as sensory processing systems.

    • (Optional) Report write-up - scoring, evaluation, impact statements (how are the challenges impacting daily living).  This process takes 3-4 hours to complete.

  • Parent meeting -after about one month of OT, a one-hour session with just the parent(s)/guardian(s) to go over findings in the report; handouts for how to apply the work to daily life.

  • Treatment - 1-hour sessions (1-2 times a week):

    • 45 minutes of 1:1 Occupational Therapy with OT and child (occasionally I take on students and volunteers).

    • 15 minutes of 1:1 with OT and parent/caregiver/educator. This can be conducted through email or phone communication post-session.

  • Progress - go over the home program, receive re-evaluation, check in on goals and progress- goals are reviewed and revised as needed. This is ongoing parent/caregiver/educator support as needed, typically once every month or two.
